Die Beiträge zum XXVI. Romanistischen Kolloquium sind den sprachlichen Aspekten der America Romana gewidmet, also dem Miteinander von romanischen Sprachen in der Neuen welt, den Berührungen romanischer Sprachen mit anderen europäischen Sprachen wie Englisch oder Niederländisch in Amerika sowie den Kontakten zwischen europäischen und indigenen idiomen. Die vielsprachigen Hintergründe kreolischer Sprachen bilden ebenso ein typisches Arbeitsfeld der America Romana wie die Besonderheiten der überseeischen Entwicklungen gegenüber den europäischen Ursprüngen. Die Vielfältigkeit der Abhandlungen in diesem Band macht deutlich, dass das Konzept der America Romana eben nicht eine Kombination zwischen amerikanischer Frankophonie und Lateinamerikastudien ist, sondern die romanische Prägung der Neuen Welt in den Mittelpunkt stellt. Der Band schafft somit eine Grundlage und gibt zugleich zahlreiche Anstöße für weitere Forschungen auf diesem Gebiet.
