Orgelbau hat in Schleswig-Holstein eine jahrhundertelange Tradition. Jedes Instrument hat eine eigene Geschichte, die mit dem Kirchenbau verbunden ist, für den sie konzipiert wurde. Dieses Buch soll die Kirchenvorstände in ihren Entscheidungen bei der Sanierung bzw. dem Neubau ihrer Orgel - z.B. hinsichtlich Finanzierung und Vorschriften - unterstützen. Einer Bestandsaufnahme und Bewertung zu Beginn der Maßnahme soll eine Schlussdokumentation als Vorbereitung auf spätere Eingriffe entsprechen. Der Aufbau und die Entwicklung des Pfeifeninstruments sind ebenso Gegenstand wie die Berufsausbildung zum Organisten und Orgelbauer. Zwar wurden in jüngerer Zeit mustergültige Restaurierungen abgeschlossen, aber viele historische Instrumente sind weiterhin vom Verfall bedroht. In zahlreichen Beiträgen wird die Orgellandschaft im zeitlichen und regionalen Überblick vorgestellt. Organisten, Orgelsachverständige, Akustiker, Architekten, Kunsthistoriker und Denkmalpfleger geben Hinweise zum nachhaltigen Umgang mit den Klang- und Kulturdenkmälern
