Die Autoren des Sammelbandes arbeiten in Verbänden und Wissenschaft, publizieren regelmäi︢g im Sachbuchbereich (vgl. z.B. U. Schneider: ID-A 47/14, C. Butterwegge: ID-B 4/12, R. Martens als Hrsg. von "Memorandum", zuletzt ID-G 33/15, oder F. Hengsbach: ID-G 4/13). Ihre Arbeitshypothese: Der Armutsbegriff ist sowohl aus der öffentlichen Debatte als auch als politisch-moralische Kategorie nahezu verschwunden. Stattdessen werde Ungleichheit als notwendige Voraussetzung für Leistungsbereitschaft und Innovation postuliert, sodass Begriffe wie Armut und Reichtum keine Relevanz mehr entfalten können. Die Autoren zeigen anhand empirischer Daten und vieler Einzelfälle, dass die Verleugnung von Armut vor allem den Interessen der Vermögenden dient. Bemerkenswert für einen Sammelband, dass keine (älteren) Artikel zweitverwertet, sondern originär verfasst wurden, was sich u.a. in der Aktualität der Daten und Quellen zeigt. Pointierte und fundierte Beiträge, vor anderen Sammelbänden wie "Was ist gerecht?" (ID-G 31/15), "Mythen des Reichtums" (ID-G 5/15) oder "Armut in Wohlstandsgesellschaften" (ID-B 27/14). (2-3)
