William Shakespeare) über die Romantik (u.a. Lord Byron) bis zum 20. Jahrhundert (u.a. George Orwell). Eigene Kapitel sind weiblichen Schriftstellerinnen gewidmet (u.a. Jane Austen) sowie Literaten aus Irland (u.a. Oscar Wilde). Außerdem gibt es 2 interessante Sonderkapitel zu Orten/Häusern, die mit bestimmten Autoren verbunden sind und Verfilmungen von bekannten Klassikern. Am Ende jedes Kapitels folgen Verständnis- und Lernkontrollfragen plus Hinweise auf weiterführende Informationen und Übungen im Internet. Auf der beiliegenden Audio-CD wird der gesamte Text in britischem Englisch vorgelesen. Insgesamt sehr unterhaltsam geschrieben und mit vielen Fotos aufgelockert.
