Im antiken Mesopotamien wurden Gebete der "Handerhebung" (Šuʼila) - bezeichnet nach der beim Beten eingenommenen Haltung - in ganz unterschiedlichen Zusammenhängen mit jeweils unterschiedlichen Absichten vorgetragen: von Heilern (āšipu) zumeist in babylonischer Sprache als Bestandteil medizinisch-therapeutischer Rituale, eingebettet in komplexe Zeremonien zur Sicherung des Heils von König und Land, oder in der Emesal genannten Sprachvariante des Sumerischen von den sog. Klagesängern (kalû) im Rahmen alljährlich begangener Feste an den Tempeln mesopotamischer Städte. Šuʼila: Die sumerischen Handerhebungsgebete aus dem Repertoire des Klagesängers enthält alle bekannten Handerhebungsgebete der Klagesänger und bietet neben einer grundlegenden philologischen Bearbeitung dieser Texte Studien zu allen relevanten Aspekten, die die Handerhebungsgebete der Klagesänger auszeichnen und von anderen Gebeten der Handerhebung unterscheiden. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei eine Untersuchung der Gattungsbezeichnung, Überlieferung, Aufbau und Formensprache der Gebete sowie die kultische und rituelle Verankerung ihres Vortrags. Ein Glossar, in dem der sumerische und der akkadische Wortschatz der Gebete erschlossen wird, rundet die philologische Textbearbeitung ab.--Publisher website
