Dieser Sammelband präsentiert die Ergebnisse des 4. Pannenberg-Kolloquiums an der Münchner Hochschule für Philosophie. Dieses beschäftigte sich mit den Implikationen und Konsequenzen des Programms eines kleinen Bandes, der im Jahr 1961 im Verlag Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht erschienen war. Unter dem Titel "Offenbarung als Geschichte" wurde dieser von Wolfhart Pannenberg in Zusammenarbeit mit Mitgliedern des später nach ihm benannten Kreises herausgegeben. Die Programmschrift mit der Grundannahme von Geschichte als der umfassendste Horizont der Theologie machte Epoche. Insbesondere Pannenbergs "Dogmatische Thesen zur Lehre der Offenbarung" wurden weichenstellend für die Entwicklung der evangelischen Theologie in der 2. Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts und zwar weit über die Grenzen des deutschen Sprachbereichs hinaus.
