Nach einem knappen Überblick über die Geschichte des Buches im 3. Reich werden bislang wenig oder gar nicht bekannte Fälle von Bücherfälschung, Bücherverfolgung, Bücherwahn und Bücherflut beschrieben. Die Rede ist von Versuchen, eine Fälschung als „Bibel der Germanen“ zu etablieren, von den Bücherverbrennungen, zu denen die Elsässer unter Androhung des KZ gezwungen wurden, von einem Fall der Beihilfe zum Mord, der sich ein späterer Universitätsrektor schuldig machte, und verzweifelten Anstrengungen von Einzelwissenschaftlern, aber auch von Geheimdienstlern, sich der Situation der in Informationen untergegangenen Wissenschaften zu stellen, die sich in der Gegenwart durch den Computer nur verschärft hat.
