Baragua es parte de la historia en la lucha por la independencia de Cuba contra el gobierno español. Esta película nos muestra pasajes de la vida de Titán de Bronce, Antonio Maceo quién luchó y murió por la libertad de Cuba. En medio de las circunstancias propendientes a una crisis del movimiento independentista cubano, la protesta de Baraguá resultó la respuesta política que volvía a colocar en primer plano los objetivos básicos revolucionarios contenidos en el Manifiesto del 10 de Octubre y defendidos durante casi dos lustros por los combatientes cubanos: la total y absoluta independencia de Cuba y la definitva abolición de la esclavitud. La trascendencia de ese acto, máxima expresión del espíritu luchador de los cubanos, radica en demostrar que los jefes, oficiales y soldados sobre cuyos hombros se llevaron el peso de las penurias de aquella querra, estaban dispuestos a continuar las acciones el tiempo que fuese necesario, en aras de lograr la victoria definitva.
