Die Ausstellung erzählt die wechselvolle Geschichte der Linga-Bibliothek und ihres Stifters, Carlos R. Linga (1877-1963). Der Hamburger Kaufmann, der ein Vermögen im mexikanischen Zuckerhandel machte, engagierte sich in der Mesoamerikanistik und baute über Jahrzehnte eine wertvolle Büchersammlung auf. Er wurde so zum Mittler zwischen Mexiko und Deutschland. Die Sammlung bildete den Grundstock der 1957 in Hamburg eröffneten Linga-Bibliothek für Lateinamerika Forschung. Sie umfasst neben aktueller Literatur aus vielen Wissenschaftsgebieten auch bibliophile Kostbarkeiten wie Chroniken des 16. Jahrhunderts und reich illustrierte Reiseberichte.
