When Frontier Films was dissolved after the production of NATIVE LAND, Hurwitz and Barney Rosset (soon to start Grove Press) formed Target Films. Their only production, STRANGE VICTORY is a strong statement on racism. Amidst the high hopes of the postwar frenzy and baby boom, it represented a provocative questioning of the discrepancies between the ideals of the allied victory and the lingering aspects of fascism in U.S. society. In a cyclical style, Hurwitz juxtaposes scenes of the war's destruction with the complacency of postwar America. (Anthology Film Archives)
