Content:
Der Erwerb von Kolonien durch das Deutsche Reich ab 1884 wird im allgemeinen als ein wichtiger und folgenschwerer Wendepunkt in der Außenpolitik Bismarcks angesehen. Erst nach und nach werdeb die Bestrebungen und Bemühungen in der Kolonialfrage in weiten Teilen der Bevölkerung, insbesondere auch in Kreisen der Wirtschaft und der an der Politik Interessierten in die Untersuchungen zur Vorgeschichte dieses Teiles der Bismarckschen Politik einbezogen. Die hier veröffentlichte Magisterarbeit zeigt das vielfältige Geflecht der individuellen Interessen und vor allem auch der nationalen Ausrichtungen im Rheinland, d.h. in einer Region, die kaum von den Vorteilen eines Kolonialreiches profitieren konnte. Die Arbeit ist damit ein wichtiger Baustein der Erforschung des politischen Lebens im Kaiserreich. Hervorzuheben ist die weitgehende Verwendung bisher nicht veröffentlichter Aussagen aus den Archivquellen
