Halbleitende Verbindungen, oft die "zweite Generation der Halbleiter" genannt, erweckten in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten zunehmendes Interesse auch der angewandten Forschung, da sie neuartige Anwendungen ermöglichen, wie Infrarotdetektoren, Lumineszenzdioden, Solarzellen und viele andere mehr. Dabei lassen sich die Eigenschaften dieser Verbindungen durch Steuerung der Zusammensetzung und Dotierung dem Verwendungszweck anpassen. Bis heute stehen Verbindungen zwischen Elementen der dritten und fünften Hauptgruppe sowie Chalkogenide der vierten Hauptgruppe und der zweiten Nebengruppe des Periodensystems im Vordergrund des Interesses. Eine Sonderstellung unter den Verbindungshalbleitern nehmen die Chalkogenide der dritten Hauptgruppe mit der Zusammensetzung III -VI ein. Diese Verbindungen haben eine relativ offene Struktur 2 3 mit einer großen Zahl sogenannter "stöchiometrischer Leerstellen" im Metalluntergitter. Die Eigenschaften dieser Substanzen sind bisher bei weitem nicht so gut erforscht worden wie die der meisten anderen Verbindungshalbleiter. Die Ursachen dafür liegen teilweise auf theoretischem Gebiet, beispielsweise ist bis heute nicht geklärt, ob das Bändermodell oder ein "hopping electron"-Modell zur Beschreibung der elektrischen Eigenschaften herangezogen werden muß /1/. Ein weiterer Grund sind präparative Schwierigkeiten bei der Herstellung von Substanzen großer Reinheit und definierter Zusammensetzung, was zu widersprüchlichen Ergebnissen in der Literatur führte
