Das vorliegende Lehrbuch gründet auf Simulationsvorlesungen der Autoren an ingenieur- und wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultäten, auf Erfahrungen aus durchgeführten Simulationsstudien in der betrieblichen Praxis sowie aus Tätigkeiten in Forschungsprojekten und der Arbeit in Vereinigungen wie dem Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI), der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Simulation (ASIM) oder der Gesellschaft für Operations Research (GOR). Das auf diese Weise entstandene Fachbuch erläutert die Grundlagen der ereignisdiskreten Simulation systematisch und bietet dabei zugleich einen engen Bezug zu den Anwendungen in Produktion und Logistik. Alle Inhalte werden durchgängig am Beispiel einer PC-Montage illustriert. Das Buch dient im Bereich Produktion und Logistik als Basis für Lehrveranstaltungen in den einschlägigen Studiengängen des Maschinenbaus, des Wirtschaftsingenieurwesens, der Logistik, der Wirtschaftsinformatik und der Betriebswirtschaftslehre. Es richtet sich dabei gleichermaßen an Lehrende und Lernende der unterschiedlichen Fachrichtungen in diesem Bereich sowie an Fachleute aus der Industrie, die in Simulationsstudien für Produktion und Logistik eingebunden sind. Kai Gutenschwager leitet das Institut für Information Engineering an der Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften am Standort Wolfenbüttel, lehrt Wirtschaftsinformatik und arbeitet an Forschungsprojekten in Optimierung und Simulation mit Schwerpunkt auf der Supply Chain Simulation. Markus Rabe leitet das Fachgebiet IT in Produktion und Logistik an der TU Dortmund, lehrt Materialflusssimulation und arbeitet an entsprechenden internationalen Forschungsprojekten. Sven Spieckermann ist Sprecher des Vorstands des Simulationsdienstleisters SimPlan AG. Darüber hinaus hat er seit vielen Jahren Lehraufträge für Simulation am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt und der Technischen Universität Braunschweig inne. Sigrid Wenzel leitet als Professorin an der Universität Kassel das Fachgebiet Produktionsorganisation und Fabrikplanung und ist stellvertretende geschäftsführende Direktorin des Institutes für Produktionstechnik und Logistik.
