Der Agrarsektor der Mongolei zeigt eine duale Struktur aus traditioneller Viehzucht und moderner Getreideproduktion, wobei die Getreideproduktion durch Transfers aus dem traditionellen Sektor gestützt wurde. Mit dem Zusammenbruch des RGW und dem hiermit in Zusammenhang stehenden Wegbrechen der Exportmärkte und Versiegen billiger Importquellen für Maschinerie und Düngemittel geriet der gesamte Agrarsektor in eine tiefe Krise. Bislang gelang es nicht, an Stelle der zusammengebrochenen staatssozialistischen Wirtschaftsstrukturen die erforderlichen institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen einer Marktwirtschaft aufzubauen. Wenn sich auch die Viehwirtschaft seit 1994 leicht erholt zeigt, bestehen hier doch traditionelle Struktur- und Produktivitätsprobleme fort. Die mongolische Wirtschaft bleibt gegenwärtig abhängig vom Mineralienexport (Kupfer, Molybden, Zinn). (BIOst-Wpt)
