TON-E Auf seinem neuen Album widmet sich der deutsche Pianist Martin Stadtfeld erstmals der Musik von Bachs großem Kollegen und Zeitgenossen Georg Friedrich Händel. Seine »Händel Variations« sind eine ganz besondere Hommage an den in Halle geborenen Sachsen Händel, der in London vor allem als Opern- und Oratorienkomponist zum Superstar aufstieg, denn Stadtfeld präsentiert auf dem Album eine Sammlung seiner ganz persönlichen Lieblingsstücke von Händel, die er selbst für das Klavier bearbeitet hat. So hat Stadtfeld berühmte Händel Hits wie »Ombra mai fu«, »Lasica ch’io pianga«, »Where’er you walk«, aber auch Instrumentalsätze etwa aus einem Orgelkonzert für Klavier selbst neu arrangiert und auf einem modernen Steinway-Flügel eingespielt. Hinzu kommen Stadtfelds Variationen über die berühmte melancholische »Sarabande« aus der Cembalo-Suite HWV 437, die in dieser neuen Fassung einen geradezu tragischen Ausdruck bekommt. Ein weiteres Hauptwerk auf »Händel Variations« ist eine Art Neufassung der Händel-Suite E-Dur HWV 430. Stadtfeld hat dafür das ursprüngliche »Prélude« mit einer Zwischenmusik aus dem zweiten Akt des Opern-Oratoriums »Theodora« und den abschließenden »Grobschmied«-Variationen zusammengesetzt.
