Ihre Grundidee der Selbsthilfe lässt sich 150 Jahre zurückverfolgen und entwickelte sich häufig aus wirtschaftlichen Notlagen als genossenschaftlicher Wohnungsbau. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf Regularien der Mitgliedschaft, Gremien, Finanzierung, Mietwesen, Architektur, (Grundrisse), Mitgliederstruktur, Nachbarschaft und generationenübergreifenden Nutzung (barrierefreies Wohnen). Ausgestattet mit vielen Beispielen, Fotos (von einst und jetzt), Zitaten von Mietern und Fachleuten sowie Literaturangaben. Gegenüber der Diplomarbeit von Manja Nieder (ID-G 43/08) mit vielen praktischen Hintergrundinformationen; vergleichbar mit Dörte Fuchs (BA 9/00), jedoch sind hier zeitgemäße Entwicklungen und Initiativen einbezogen.
