Das Mädchen Nadschmah lebt mit seiner Familie in einem kleinen Dorf im Norden Afghanistans, einfach, aber zufrieden. Im Oktober 2001 kommen die gefürchteten Taliban, nehmen Vater und Bruder mit. Wenige Tage später treffen amerikanische Bomben das Dorf, die Mutter und das Baby sterben. Nadschmah bleibt nur die gefährliche Flucht nach Pakistan, als Junge verkleidet erreicht sie Peshewar. Hier hat sie unglaubliches Glück, findet Aufnahme und schließlich sogar ihren Bruder wieder. Fisher Staples (vgl. "Parvati", BA 10/01) erzählt diese unausweichliche Geschichte realisisch und beinahe undramatisch, und gerade in dieser Zurückhaltung liegt eine enorme Eindringlichkeit, die den Leser ergreift. - Empfehlenswert - bleibt zu hoffen, dass viele jugendliche Leser/-innen zu einem Buch über ein Problem-Thema greifen.
