Udo Steinberg, ein Student aus Mittweida, hat Fußballgeschichte geschrieben. Als Schüler vom Sport fasziniert, trug er in Deutschland und Spanien als Fußballpionier zur Verbreitung dieser und weiterer Sportarten bei. Als Student sorgte er für die Verbreitung dieser und weiterer Sportarten in Mittweida. Er war als Vereinsgründer an der Gründung von Sportvereinen in Berlin, Mittweida, Chemnitz und Barcelona beteiligt. Er zählte zu den Personen, die am 28. Januar 1900 den Deutschen Fußball-Bund aus der Taufe hoben und die am Abend in Leipzig den DFB gründeten. Als Ingenieur etablierte er sich mit seiner engagierten Tätigkeit und einer Vielzahl von Ingenieurpatenten in Spanien. Gemeinsam mit weiteren Fußballpionieren trug er zur Verbreitung des Fußballgedankens bei und setzte sich mit der Gründung der berühmten Fußballschule in Bearcelona ein Denkmal. Als Universaltalent betätigte er sich nicht nur in leichtathletischen Sportarten sondern auch in Cricket, Rad-Polo, Lawn-Tennis und alpinen Sportarten. Neben seinen sportlichen Aktivitäten war er auch als Sportfunktionär, Schiedsrichter, Vorsitzender und Schriftführer in Vereinen tätig. Er zählt unter anderem zu den ersten Redakteuren der Sportzeitung El Mundo Deportivo. Udo Steinberg war ein erfolgreicher Fußballspieler beim F.C. Barcelona, in mehr als 65 Spielen schoss er über 60 Tore, beim ersten Spiel gegen Real Madrid am 13. Mai 1902 siegte der F.C. Barcelona 3:1, er schoss die ersten beiden Tore für die Katalanen. (MOD)
