Summary: Kapitalistscher Realismus: Unter diesem Schlagwort wurden seit Beginn der 60er Jahre sehr frühe Werke heute weltbekannter Künstler wie Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Wolf Vostell oder Konrad Lueg (Fischer) ausgestellt und vermarktet. Der kapitalistische Realismus stellt eine parallele Entwicklung zur US-amerikanischen und britischen Pop Art dar, die, wie die Untersuchung zeigt, als deutsche Spielart von Pop verstanden werden kann. Das Verhältnis ist dabei keineswegs epigonal, sondern kritisch-distanziert. Die Gemeinsamkeit ist die Abwendung von der Tradition der gegenstandslosen Kunst des Informel oder des Abstract Expressionism. Hier wie dort wird die gegenständliche Malerei mit Hilfe alltäglicher Bilder aus Werbung, Zeitungen oder privaten Fotoalben neu erfunden.
