Wie auch beim Titel "Lisas neuer Hund" (ID-A 34/15), der in derselben Reihe 2015 erschien, veranschaulichen zahlreiche farbige Fotos und Illustrationen, die z.T. in beiden Bänden Verwendung finden, den Text. Dieser ist für Erstleser gut verständlich formuliert. Die Geschichte um Hannah, deren Gasthund einfach nicht das tut, was das Mädchen möchte, gefällt dazu als nette harmlose Tiergeschichte. Ergänzt wird der Band durch den Zeichenkurs "So zeichnest du einen Welpen", ein Rezept für Hundekuchen, ein Quiz zum Text, Infos für die Eltern zum Thema "Lesen" und ein kurzes Glossar rund um den Hund.
