Ein Objekt überragt seit acht Jahrzehnten die Berliner Museumslandschaft: das Dinosaurierskelett des Brachiosaurus brancai. Von 1909 bis 1913 wurden unter der Leitung des Museums für Naturkunde Berlin in der Kolonie Deutsch-Ostafrika 225 Tonnen fossile Knochen ausgegraben, zur Küste transportiert und nach Berlin verschifft. Das Buch folgt der wechselvollen Geschichte dieser Objekte durch das 20. Jahrhundert: Gefunden und ausgegraben in der Kolonialzeit, aufgestellt in den Jahren der Weimarer Republik und des "Dritten Reiches" und wiedererrichtet nach dem Krieg in Ost-Berlin, stehen die Funde bis heute im Zentrum des Museums für Naturkunde Berlin. In der Geschichte der Tendaguru-Expedition und ihrer weltberühmten, vielschichtigen und fragmentarischen Objekte zeigt sich ein Zusammenspiel von Politik, Wissenschaft und Museum, das bis heute die Präsentation, das Wissen und die Debatten um Brachiosaurus brancai prägt.
