Content: "Investigation of the structure underlying variables (or people, or time) has intrigued social scientists since the early origins of psychology. Conducting one's first factor analysis can yield a sense of awe regarding the power of these methods to inform judgment regarding the dimensions underlying constructs. This book presents the important concepts required for implementing two disciplines of factor analysis: exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The book may be unique in its effort to present both analyses within the single rubric of the general linear model. Throughout the book canons of best factor analytic practice are presented and explained. The book has been written to strike a happy medium between accuracy and completeness versus overwhelming technical complexity. An actual data set, randomly drawn from a large-scale international study involving faculty and graduate student perceptions of academic libraries, is presented in Appendix A. Throughout the book different combinations of these variables and participants are used to illustrate EFA and CFA applications"--Preface. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2005 APA, all rights reserved).

Content: "The editors envision this volume as a handbook for researchers in psychology and education who target exceptional populations in their work, and particularly individuals exhibiting gifts and talents. The research tools described here can help to move the scholarship on giftedness and talent development to a new level of rigor and encourage the testing of program models, as well as predictive validity of theoretical or conceptual frameworks (see for example Sternberg & Davidson, 2005). Of course, the methods described in these chapters can also be usefully applied in general populations or in studies dealing with specialized subpopulations other than gifted and talented. The scholars who contributed to the first nine chapters of this volume are pioneers in the field of measurement and statistics, and they show us most elegantly how the methodologies they have mastered or developed can apply to samples that, by their nature, make statistical analysis more challenging. We tasked our contributors to address the following four barriers, and one facilitator, associated with gifted education research: Definitions of giftedness and talent are not standardized; Test ceilings can be too low to measure progress or growth; Comparison groups are difficult to find for extraordinary individuals; Participant attrition in longitudinal studies may compromise tests of hypothesized effects; and, Qualitative research conducted with gifted populations can be enhanced due to highly articulate study participants"--Introduction. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved).

Content: This Special Issue presents an in-depth analysis of transport research commissioned by the UK Department for International Development under the High Volume Transport Programme (2017-2023). The analysis done in the period 2018-2019 contributes to the UK response to improving transport in the low-income countries in Africa and South Asia. As a result, key priorities have been identified for applied research in 2020 to make road, rail and urban transport more efficient and affordable, and all transport greener, safer and more inclusive for all users. This applied research is a vital link in making transport a sustainable lifeline for people in low-income countries, because transport gives farmers and manufacturers access to domestic and international markets and people in rural and urban areas access to schools and health services
