Dieser Band ist aus Vorlesungen entstanden, die mein Freund und Kollege Thomsen und ich in Hamburg gehalten haben. Die Darstellung und nähere Ausführung dieses Bandes geht allein auf Herrn Thomsen zurück. Es handelt sich hier um die verschiedenen Arten der Kugelgeometrie, die sich alle einbauen lassen in die sogenannte höhere Kugelgeometrie von Lie und auf deren Boden systematisch zusammengefaßt werden können. Die allgemeine Kugelgeometrie liefert ein Beispiel zur Aus~ einandersetzung der Ideen von Kleins Erlanger Programm, das an Schlagkraft dem der projektiven Geometrie gleichwertig, ja, wenn man zu den schwierigeren Fragen der Differentialgeometrie übergeht, sogar überlegen erscheint. Besonders handelt es sich um die Darstellung der Inversionsgeometrie des Raumes (oder, wie wir sagen wollen, um die Kugelgeometrie von Möbius) und um die Kugelgeometrie von Laguerre. Diese letztere Gruppe ist heute für die Physik als Gruppe der speziellen Relativitätstheorie wichtig geworden. Von der Kugelgeometrie aus ge~ winnt man aber weiter auch Einblick in die verschiedenen Zweige der nichteuklidischen Geometrie. Endlich wird auch der Verwandtschaft der Kugelgeometrie von Lie mit der projektiven Geometrie Rechnung getragen. So findet sich die projektive Flächentheorie, wie sie ins~ besondere von Fubini und Cech begründet und vor allem in Italien gepflegt worden ist, in den §§ 90ff. von diesem Standpunkt aus in ihren Grundzügen entwickelt. So läßt sich wohl sagen, daß in den vorliegenden drei ersten Bänden die Differentialgeometrie der wi~htigsten endlichen geometrischen Gruppen im wesentlichen enthalten ist
