Note:
Seit langem beabsichtige ich, eine Zusammenstellung aller bekannt gewordenen pflanzlichen Chromosomenzahlen zu geben. Doch muss ich für einige Zeit diesen Wunsch noch zurückstellen, da ich vorher noch den Schlussband meiner "Pflanzenkaryologie" beendigen möchte. Aber es ist mir von verschiedenen Seiten nahegelegt, wenigstens sogleich eine Zusammenstellung der Gefässpflanzen Mitteleuropas zu bringen. Diese würde sich nicht nur an den Zellforscher, sondern ebenso an den Genetiker, Oekologen, Pflanzengeographen, Systematiker und Floristen wenden. Denn in steigendem Masse müssen auch die anderen Teilgebiete der Botanik von den Ergebnissen der Chromosomenforschung Notiz nehmen. Als ich vor mehr als einem Jahrzehnt eine derartige Liste für die Angiospermen Schleswig-Holsteins brachte, hoffte ich auf baldige Nachfolge für andere Länder. In dieser Hoffnung bin ich auch nicht getäuscht worden. Miss Maude (1939) und Rutland (1941) haben im "Merton-Katalog" für Grossbritannien, A. u. D. Love (1942, 1948) für Skandinavien und v. S60 (1947) mit seinen Mitarbeitern für die karpathisch-pannonischen Gebiete solche Zusammenstellungen gebracht. Ich selbst habe für Spitzbergen und die griechischen Inseln Aehnliches compiliert. Und, wie ich höre, ist für Portugal bald Analoges zu erwarten. Wenn auch die letztgenannten Zusammenstellungen noch nicht gedruckt sind, so sieht man doch, wie rasch sich eine "cytologische Floristik" herauszubilden beginnt
