Lehrerinnen und Lehrer spielten in sämtlichen Institutionalisierungs- und Paradigmatisierungsphasen der Volkskunde als akademische Wissenschaft eine Rolle. Ihr Engagement für volkskundliche Sammlungsaktionen wird in dieser Studie genauer untersucht. Im 1951 gegründeten Archiv für westfälische Volkskunde, das heute von der Kommission Alltagskulturforschung für Westfalen des Landschaftsverbandes Westfalen-Lippe in Münster verwahrt wird, zählten Lehrerinnen und Lehrer zu den sammlungs- und forschungsfreudigsten Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern und trugen damit zur Formierung volkskundlichen Wissens bei. Anhand von Korrespondenzen dieser Berufsgruppe mit der Archivleiterin, Martha Bringemeier (1900-1991) aus den Gründungsjahren des Archivs, wird gezeigt, welche fachlichen Inhalte mit welchen sozialen Unterscheidungen korrespondierten, und wie dabei Laienaktivität und akademische Expertise immer wieder neu justiert wurden
