Das Buch beschreibt zunächst sehr komprimiert anhand von "Leporello-Stadt" die Entwicklung einer europäischen Grossstadt von der Römerzeit bis in die Gegenwart. Auf den folgenden Doppelseiten werden verschiedene Aspekte des städtischen Lebens dargestellt und auch historisch (meist ab dem 19. Jahrhundert) betrachtet: u.a. Wohnen, Arbeiten, Ver- und Entsorgung, Vergnügen, Bildung, Verkehr, Verwaltung, Entwicklung von Städten, die wachsen und schrumpfen können. Hier verlässt der Blick auch einmal Europa. Probleme (Verkehr, Armut) werden nicht verschwiegen. Der fortlaufende Text ist meist gut verständlich; er wird ergänzt durch Bildbeschreibungen und eine Randleiste unten. Die Illustrationen sind überwiegend Fotos (auch historische) und Ausschnitte aus dem Riesen-Leporello. Das zeigt eine belebte Stadt mit zahlreichen Architekturüberbleibseln der Stadtgeschichte. "Städte" aus der memo-Reihe von DK (ID-A 38/11) lag zwar nicht vor. Im Vergleich mit im Internet einsehbaren Seiten scheint das vorliegende Buch deutlich übersichtlicher und auf das Wesentliche konzentriert. Empfohlen
