Das deutsche Duo bestehend aus Illustratorin und Autor dokumentiert in dieser Graphic Novel die Entstehung der New Yorker Gangs in den 1960/70er-Jahren. Erzählt wird die Geschichte des Puertoricaners Benji, der als Kind mit seiner Familie in den Stadteil Bronx zieht. Die sozial prekären Verhältnisse und die Ausgrenzung aus dem amerikanischen Traum sorgen für soziale Spannungen, die zur Gründung sich gegenseitig bekämpfender Jugendgangs führen. Der Tod eines Mitglieds führt schließlich den Präsidenten der "Ghetto Brothers", Benji, dazu ein Friedensabkommen zwischen den Gangs auszuhandeln. Auf dessen Grundlage orientieren diese sich weg von der Gewalt hin zur Kultur und erfinden Rap, Graffiti und HipHop. Benji aber orientiert sich hin zu seinen neu entdeckten jüdischen Wurzeln. Der schwarz-weiß gehaltene Comic mit fotografischem Anhang kann als eine Art Dokumentation aufgefasst werden. Das auch für Jugendliche geeignete Werk hat manchmal erzählerischen Schwächen, ist aber insgesamt ein gelungenes Stück Zeitgeschichte über soziale Ausgrenzung und einen multikulturell geprägten Stadtteil.
