"Johannes Brahms stellte für sein Deutsches Requiem Texte aus biblischen Quellen zusammen. Er hatte ein Faible für die Polyphonie und ließ sich von Vorbildern aus der großen lutherischen Tradition der Spätrenaissance und des Barocks inspirieren. Ricercar und Vox Luminis haben dieses Repertoire seit vielen Jahren mit gleicher Leidenschaft erforscht, mit Bewunderung für Brahms' Meisterwerk. Natürlich wurden einige der Texte, die Brahms wählte, bereits von seinen Vorgängern vertont. So war es ein Leichtes, ein barockes Deutsches Requiem aus diesem Fundus zusammenzustellen" (Pressetext).
