Das Violoncellokonzert e-Moll op. 85 von Edward Elgar ist eines der ganz großen Konzerte des Cello-Repertoires. Es erlangte durch die inzwischen legendäre Aufnahme mit der leider viel zu früh verstorbenen Cellistin Jacqueline du Pré unter Sir John Barbirolli breite Bekanntheit. Doch Elgar schuf auch subtile kammermusikalische Werke, die seinen Orchesterwerken in nichts nachstehen, wie beispielsweise das Klavierquintett op. 84, das in der gleichen Zeit entstand. Die Interpretation der Cellistin Marie-Elisabeth Hecker setzt Maßstäbe für die heutige Zeit. Sie wird begleitet vom Antwerp Symphony Orchestra unter Edo de Waart. Auch das Klavierquintett ist hochkarätig besetzt mit u.a. der Geigerin Caroline Widmann, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker am Cello und Martin Helmchen am Klavier. Das Cellokonzert ist Grundbestand und hier in einer beeindruckenden Interpretation zu hören. Unbedingt für alle.
