Die in der ersten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts entstandene Sint-Geertruihandschrift enthält wie viele mittelalterliche Handschriften keinen Einzeltext, sondern eine Sammlung verschiedener, in diesem Fall geistlicher, Texte. Sie zeichnet sich nicht nur durch ihren inhaltlichen Fokus (Christi Leiden, die Mutter Gottes als Fürsprecherin, das Jüngste Gericht) und die für die Zeit ungebräuchliche Versform (größtenteils Jamben) aus, sondern auch durch ihren Überlieferungs- und Gebrauchskontext (Kloster Sint Geertruiden in Amsterdam). Zwar sind Thematik und religiöse Haltung der Texte exemplarisch für die spätmittelalterliche Frömmigkeit, sprachliche Fülle und dichterische Bildhaftigkeit jedoch verleihen ihr einen besonderen Charakter. Die drei Haupttexte stammen vermutlich von ein und demselben Verfasser und sind nicht an anderer Stelle überliefert. Allein deswegen schon hat diese Handschrift in der mittelniederländischen Literatur einen einzigartigen Stellenwert. Dies ist die erste Ausgabe der Sint-Geertruihandschrift mit deutscher Übersetzung, die zudem mit ausführlichen Erläuterungen zur kulturhistorischen Einbettung versehen ist. Die Bibliothek mittelniederländischer Literatur ist auf zwölf Bände angelegt. Niederländische, belgische und deutsche Mediävisten arbeiten zusammen, um die bekanntesten mittelalterlichen Texte aus dem niederländischen Sprachraum zu edieren, ins Neuhochdeutsche zu übertragen und zu kommentieren. Die zweisprachigen Ausgaben wenden sich an interkulturell Interessierte ebenso wie an Studierende und Wissenschaftler.
