Nautilus) lässt sich die angeborene Fertigkeit in der Herstellung von Bauen und Nestern, über die viele Tierarten verfügen, verschiedenen handwerklichen Tätigkeiten zuordnen. Da wird gemauert (Schwalbe), gezimmert (Specht), geknüpft (Webervogel), gesponnen, gepolstert, geschneidert, gekittet usw. Die Beispiele sind geschickt gewählt und zeigen erstaunliche Bauleistungen von Insekten, Fischen, Vögeln und Säugetieren. Am meisten Raum ist dem Biber gewidmet, der sich durch die Anlage von Dämmen seinen eigenen Lebensraum schafft. Der grossgedruckte, knapp informierende Text und viele, wichtige Details immer wieder verdeutlichende Bilder machen die Darstellung leicht verständlich und anschaulich.
