In vielen Branchen zählen Weiterempfehlungen zufriedener Kunden zu den wichtigsten Instrumenten der Akquisition von Neukunden. Dennoch liegen keine Modelle vor, die Unternehmen dabei helfen, Investitionen in die Stimulierung von Weiterempfehlungen zu rechtfertigen. Florian von Wangenheim analysiert die ökonomische Bedeutung der Weiterempfehlung aus Unternehmenssicht. Er entwickelt einen Ansatz zur Vorhersage des Weiterempfehlungsverhaltens gebundener Kunden und untersucht, welche Faktoren Abgabe und Wirkung von Weiterempfehlungen beeinflussen. Anhand der Ergebnisse zweier Studien zeigt der Autor, wie sich empirisch fundierte, individuelle Weiterempfehlungswerte ermitteln lassen und was Unternehmen tun können, um ihre Kunden zur Weiterempfehlung zu stimulieren und negative Aussagen von Kunden zu vermeiden. Die Arbeit wurde beim Dissertationswettbewerb der Academy of Marketing Science (USA) 2003 mit "honorable mentioning" (2. Platz) und 2001 vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung mit dem 1. Preis für "Innovation im Dienstleistungsbereich" ausgezeichnet.
