Seine neue Patientin ist Elly, 101 Jahre alt, ein Zirkuskind, das als "Mädchen ohne Knochen" und Hochseilartistin Triumphe feierte; sie traf in Hans, dem Tigerdompteur, ihre große Liebe, heiratete ihn und ging mit ihm nach Südamerika, als er, der Jude, 1934 Deutschland verließ. Nun ist sie nach Berlin zurückgekehrt, ein Pflegefall, und wird für John in den letzten Tagen ihres Lebens so etwas wie Familie, Trost und Stütze. Tanja Weber (zuletzt "Die Frauen meiner Familie", ID-A 12/16) schildert sehr einfühlsam 2 Lebensläufe, die unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten, deren Protagonisten jedoch den Verlust von Heimat und Familie gemeinsam haben. Plastisch schildert sie die Zirkuswelt, in der Elly zu Hause war, und macht auch Johns Schicksal und Trauma greif- und fühlbar. 100 Jahre deutscher Geschichte, 2 Menschen, die Heimat und Familie verloren haben in einem spannenden Roman präsentiert - empfehlenswerte Neuerscheinung.
