Unter den Verfahren der zerstörungsfreien Werkstoffprüfung, die das Innere von Werkstücken zu untersuchen gestatten, nimmt die Durchstrahlungsprüfung einen bevorzugten Platz ein, da sie von den im Werkstück vorhandenen Ungleichförmigkeiten einen unmittelbar bildhaften Eindruck vermittelt. Die richtige Beurteilung der in einer Durchstrahlungsaufnahme enthaltenen Fehlerbilder setzt die Kenntnis der mit dieser Aufnahme erreichten Nachweisempfindlichkeit voraus. Zu diesem Zweck werden an der für den Nachweis ungünstigsten Stelle künstliche Fehler am Prüfstück angebracht, deren Sichtbarkeit Rückschlüsse auf die Mindestgröße der mit einer Aufnahme nachweisbaren wirklichen Fehler gestattet. Die künstlichen Fehler müssen aus dem gleichen Werkstoff wie das Prüfstück oder einem ihm absorptionsmäßig möglichst ähnlichen Werkstoff hergestellt sein
