Weisse, Stadtplaner und Architekt, arbeitete 1963/64 bei Mies van der Rohe. Sein Bildband zeichnet die Entwicklung von frei überspannten, eingeschossigen Universalräumen in Mies Oeuvre nach. Diese Reduzierung auf die für die Konstruktion wichtigen Elemente Bodenplatte, Stützen, Dach und Glashülle wurde durch moderne Baumaterialien möglich und entsprach dem Zeitgeist. Viele der in Text und Bild vorgestellten Bauten sind lediglich Projekte geblieben; ausführlich wird auf die fertig gestellte Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin eingegangen. Aufzeichnungen von Gesprächen aus der Zeit in Chicago vermitteln die persönliche Nähe des Autors; interessant sind Mies Äußerungen zur Schließung des Dessauer Bauhauses.
