"Inferno, ein Spiel um Menschen unserer Zeit") erweist sich über seine melodramatische Kriminalgeschichte hinaus als präzise dramaturgische und formale Konstruktion, die in beinahe dokumentarischer Weise nicht nur die Lebenshaltung veschiedener Gesellschaftsschichten und die Vergnügungssucht und Dekadenz von Großbürgertum und Kleinadel attackiert, sondern auch die Bedingungen aufzeigt, unter denen eine Gesellschaft zwischen Chaos und Tyrannei einem "Übermenschen" vefallen kann.
