Amrei Wiencek analysiert und vergleicht die bekanntesten kontemporären Parodien auf Shakespeares Werk. Nach einer umfassenden Einführung in Geschichte und Theorie der Parodie liegt der Fokus hierbei auf den Shakespeareparodien von Tom Stoppard, Roger Woddis und Michael Green. Mittels ausführlicher Interpretation werden Textmerkmale, parodistische Ziele, Methoden und Stile extrapoliert. Zugleich hinterfragt die Autorin, warum diese Textexempel als etablierte Beispiele der Shakespeareparodie des 20. Jahrhunderts gelten und ob in diesem Zusammenhang von einem Kanon der Shakespeareparodien gesprochen werden kann. In einem abschließenden Ausblick versucht sie, diesen Kanongedanken aufzubrechen und Parodien von namenlosen Laienautoren, die ihre Parodien ausschließlich im World Wide Web veröffentlicht haben, in die Untersuchung mit einzubinden, sie zu katalogisieren und zu klassifizieren. Das Buch wendet sich an Dozierende und Studierende der Anglistik und der Medienwissenschaften.
