Sibylle Bergemann ist eine der bekanntesten deutschen Fotograf*innen. Über mehr als vier Jahrzehnte hinweg schuf die Berlinerin mit großer Leidenschaft ein außergewöhnliches Werk aus Mode- und Porträtaufnahmen, literarischen Reportagen und atmosphärischen Bildserien. Im Mittelpunkt stand stets der Mensch. In der DDR arbeitete Bergemann freiberuflich und im kontinuierlichen Auftrag verschiedener Kunst- und Kulturmagazine. Nach der Maueröffnung war sie Mitbegründerin von OSTKREUZ – Agentur der Fotografen und fotografierte für GEO, Die Zeit, Stern oder das New York Times Magazine. Der Katalog zur Ausstellung in der Berlinischen Galerie stellt auf verschiedenen Erzählebenen den einzigartigen Bilderkosmos von Sibylle Bergemann vor und versammelt über 200 Fotografien sowohl aus den Sammlungsbeständen des Museums als auch dem Nachlass der Fotografin. Erstmals werden dabei auch ausgewählte Motive des Frühwerks gezeigt.
