Das vorliegende Werk: Bei den vier Autoren handelt es sich um prominente Mitglieder der Patronensammlervereinigung e.V., der deutschen Sprachgruppe der European Cartridge Research Association (ECRA). Allesamt Spezialisten auf dem vorliegenden Gebiet, haben sie mit ihrem gemeinsam verfassten Buch das Standardwerk zum Thema geschaffen. Detailliert wird auf die technische Entwicklung und den historischen Hintergrund eingegangen. An Abbildungen werden erstklassige Fotos von Realstücken (Patronen, Bodenstempel, Packungen usw.) aus den bedeutendsten Patronensammlungen, Originalfotos, Faksimiles von Originalquellen usw. angeboten. Hinter den Patronenbezeichnungen des Titels verbirgt sich nichts anderes als das Kaliber 7,92 x 57, das zivil als 8 x 57 J und 8 x 57 JS bezeichnet wird. Es handelt sich um die erste randlose und somit moderne Militär-Gewehrpatrone der Waffengeschichte, die im Laufe der dem Einführungsjahr 1888 folgenden Jahrzehnte als Basis für Dutzende Neuentwicklungen für Militär- und Jagdpatronen diente. Dieses Kaliber war und ist - noch immer - nicht nur in vielen Staaten militärisch eingeführt, sondern wird weltweit wegen seiner universalen Eigenschaften von Waidmännern sehr geschätzt. In seiner Variante als S-Kaliber war es nicht zuletzt Standardpatrone der deutschen Streitkräfte in beiden Weltkriegen. (AUT)
