Auckland, neuseeländischer Mittelstand, glückliche Familie, schönes Haus, Sohn um die 20, Tochter, sagen wir mal neun. Eine Maori-Familie, die mit den Traditionen durchaus umgehen kann. Der Vater soll, ganz dem kulturellen Erbe verpflichtet, schon bald die Führung der (Groß-)Familie übertragen bekommen. Doch so einfach ist das alles natürlich nicht, denn: er, erfolgreich als Vater und Ehemann, hat ein Geheimnis. Er sucht gerne Badehäuser auf, und das nicht zum Schwitzen, nein: er steht auf Männer. Und er hat auch eine Art Freund, einen smarten jüngeren Schauspieler. Und natürlich läßt sich das Geheimnis nicht verbergen, denn eines Abends werden die beiden ertappt. Die Konsequenz: der Mann soll aus seiner Familie verstoßen werden. Doch gibt es wirklich nur diesen einen Weg? Kann es wirklich keine Versöhnung zwischen Althergebrachtem und Moderne geben? Die Familie ist gezwungen, wieder zusammenzufinden und mit sich ins Reine zu kommen. Aber wie wird das allen Beteiligten gelingen?
