Content: This study investigates the causal effects of long-term particulate matter 2.5 exposure on COVID-19 deaths, fatality rates, and cases in India by using an instrumental variables approach based on thermal inversion episodes. The estimation results indicate that a 1 percent increase in long-term exposure to particulate matter 2.5 leads to an increase in COVID-19 deaths by 5.7 percentage points and an increase in the COVID-19 fatality rate by 0.027 percentage point, but this exposure is not necessarily correlated with COVID-19 cases. People with underlying health conditions such as respiratory illness caused by exposure to air pollution might have a higher risk of death following SARS-CoV-2 infection. This finding might also apply to other countries where high levels of air pollution are a critical issue for development and public health.

Content: This book illustrates the precautions for dental treatment with patients with medical diseases and presents the correlation and relationship between oral symptoms and systemic diseases. It is organized into two parts; the first part is symptomatology presenting the description of some symptoms as general remarks. Then comes the part explaining the diseases, which describe the associations between each medical disease and the oral conditions. Chapters provide intraoral figures and in-depth information to help readers understand the symptoms, mechanisms, and responses, the comorbidities, and medications. As the number of patients with lifestyle-related diseases and metabolic syndrome is in increases, it is important to understand the perioperative oral care for patients with malignant diseases. Internal Medicine for Dental Treatments - Patients with Medical Diseases is a valuable resource not only for undergraduate and post-graduate dental students but also for dental residents, practitioners, and dental nurses. Written by both internal medicine doctors and dentists, this book is a comprehensive guide and easy read for readers at all levels. This is a translated version of the book originally published in Japanese language. This has been facilitated using machine translation (by the service DeepL.com) followed by editors and authors revising, editing and verifying the translated manuscript.
Note: Part I: Symptomatology -- Chapter 1 Respiratory/Infection Symptoms -- Chapter 2 Cardiovascular Symptoms -- Chapter 3 Digestive Symptoms -- Chapter 4 Neurological and Psychosomal Symptoms -- Chapter 5 Endocrine/Renal/Blood/Other Symptoms -- Part II: Diseases -- Chapter 6 Respiratory Diseases -- Chapter 7 Endocrine Diseases -- Chapter 8 Cardiovascular Diseases -- Chapter 9 Cerebrovascular Diseases -- Chapter 10 Digestive Diseases -- Chapter 11 Malignant Diseases -- Chapter 12 Metabolic Diseases -- Chapter 13 Kidney Diseases -- Chapter 14 Hematologic Diseases -- Chapter 15 Immune System Diseases -- Chapter 16 Neurological Diseases -- Chapter 17 Neuropsychiatry Diseases -- Chapter 18 Infectious Diseases -- Chapter 19 Pregnancy and Breastfeeding -- Chapter 20 Organ Transplantation (Bone Marrow Transplantation, Liver Transplantation) .

Content: Absenteeism among public health workers is common in developing countries. Absence rates among public health workers are above 25 per cent in the five developing countries that Chaudhury et al. (N. Chaudhury, J. Hammer, M. Kremer, K. Muralidharan, and F.H. Rogers (2006) Missing in action: Teacher and health worker absence in developing countries. Journal of Economic Perspectives, 20, pp. 91–116) examined. However, the present study finds that the corresponding rate in Lao PDR is significantly lower (17%). Using a new dataset from the Lao PDR Public Expenditure Tracking Survey, we find that both extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation affect health centre worker behaviour: the timely payment of wages, a nonrural workplace and proximity of the workplace to hometown are factors that are negatively associated with absenteeism.
