Weihnachten 1980. Zum Familienfest bringt Isa ihren neuen Freund mit, der so gar nicht ins großbürgerliche Bild passt: Bruno ist Tischler, ein Macho mit blonden Locken und großen Sprüchen. Isas schwuler Bruder Nicolas verliebt sich auf der Stelle in ihn. Und trotz Brunos Berührungsängste werden er und Nicolas unzertrennliche Freunde. Als Isa zwei Jahre später bei einem Bombenanschlag ums Leben kommt, ziehen die beiden Männer zusammen und kümmern sich um ihren Sohn Jèrèmy. In Nicolas Freundeskreis häufen sich erste Fälle von Aidserkrankungen. 1985 infizieren sich Männer und Frauen in Frankreich an verseuchten Blutkonserven. Die junge Ärztin Nadia entdeckt, dass auch Bruno betroffen sein könnte und ein Test bestätigt diesen Verdacht. Bruno wird ein Opfer der Hysterie, die sich gegen die HIV-Infizierten richtet: Arbeitskollegen schwärzen ihn an, er wird entlassen. Trotz vieler Schicksalsschläge und der ständigen Sorge um Brunos Gesundheitszustand bleiben Nicolas und Bruno zusammen und treffen sich jedes Wochenende mit dem Rest von Nicolas Familie und den Freunden, die im Lauf der Zeit dazu gekommen sind. Renaud Bertrands großes, warmherziges Familienmelodram erzählt im Zeitraum von 1980 bis 2008 die Geschichte von Aids in Frankreich, von zerbrechenden Familienkonstellationen und neuen Modellen des Zusammenlebens, von gesellschaftlichen Vorurteilen und dem Kampf um Selbstbestimmung. Mit großer Liebe zum Detail, wunderbaren Schauspielern und emotionaler Kraft hat dieser Zweiteiler das Zeug zum Klassiker mit der politisch wichtigen Aussage, dass Menschen für einander einstehen können, unabhängig von Geschlecht, sexueller Identität und Blutsverwandtschaft.
