Die vorliegende Arbeit sieht sich in der Tradition eines interdisziplinär verbreiteten psychiatrietheoretischen Diskurses, als dessen Gegenstand die kritisierte Formierung des sog. "medizinischen Modells" der Erklärung und Behandlung psychischer Störungen anzusehen ist. Der Diskurs fand jedoch nicht in einer theoretisch befriedigenden Darlegung des proklamier ten "sozialwissenschaftlichen" Alternativmodells sein gewünschtes Ziel, sondern trat hinter psychiatriepolitische Reformmaßnahmen zurück, die eine wohlwollende Unterstützung auch von Vertretern sozialwissenschaftli cher Modellbildungen erfuhren, obwohl ihre Ausgestaltung nicht in erster Linie fachlichen bzw. störungstheoretischen Vorgaben folgte. Gerade das Ergebnis der Psychiatriereform in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, das etwaigen Erwartungen einer grundlegenden Neugestaltung des 'psychia trisch - psychotherapeutischen Komplexes' nicht entsprach, macht deut lich, daß die fachlich weiterhin gebotene Diskussion um ein angemes senes Neuverständnis psychischer Störungen sich durch den Vollzug praktischer Reformschritte nicht erübrigt, sondern ihnen sogar vorausge setzt ist. Das sozialwissenschaftliche Störungsmodell ist entsprechend theoretisch unentwickelt, begrifflich vage und auch praktisch so unergiebig, daß es sich zur theoretischen Begründung reformleitender Handlungskonzepte kaum anbietet. In der psychiatrisch - psychotherapeutischen Praxis der Diagnose und Behandlung psychischer Störungen erfuhr das medizinische Störungsmo dell so keine nachhaltige Relativierung, obwohl die immanente Bereit schaft gewachsen ist, um seine im strengen Sinne auch weiterhin orga nismisch - biologische Kerngestalt psychologische, soziologische und pädagogische Erklärungsmuster zu legen. Es verstärkten sich in den letzten Jahren sogar erneut die Bemühungen, dezidiert neurophysiolo gisch - biochemische Hypothesen experimentell abzusichern
