This collection is dedicated to two anniversaries: the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Cyril and Methodius studies at the Faculty of Slavic philology of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (founded in 1980) and on the 80th anniversary of one of its most prominent members – Professor Klimentina Ivanova (b. 1940), doyen of old Bulgarian literature. The articles in the collection are in the field of history of Bulgarian language, literature and culture, seen in a broader South Slavic context, starting from the earliest period of written Bulgarian culture (end of the 9th – 10th c.) and comes to the written and oral culture of the late 19th c. The volume contains publications on the techniques of translation into Old Bulgarian literary language from Greek and on the distribution of a number of important Christian texts in translation among medieval Slavs, on elements of historical grammar and lexicology, on specific manuscripts, and on their modern preservation, description and presentation.
