Die Bürgerbewegungen, die in den letzten Jahren rund um den Globus entstanden sind, stellen einen neuen politischen Faktor dar: Neben diejenigen, die repräsentieren, und die Repräsentierten, die Regierenden und die Regierten sind andere, neue Akteure getreten. Sie beanspruchen Mitsprache und stellen die Funktionsweise der etablierten staatlich-politischen Regierungs- und Verwaltungsinstitutionen in Frage. Diese heterogene Menge von Akteure umfasst ein Spektrum, das von rechtspopulistischen und rechtsextremen Bewegungen, die den Vollzug eines «Volkswillens» einfordern, bis hin zu Konzeptionen einer «neuen Bürgerschaftlichkeit» reicht. In diese Gemengelage greifen die Beiträge ein. Sie versuchen Diskussionen zu vertiefen, etwa über das Verhältnis von Parteien und Sozialen Bewegungen, über die politischen Möglichkeiten neuer technischer Medien sowie der Klärung einer neuen, republikanischen Bürgerschaftlichkeit selbst. Die Beiträge gehen zurück auf die Gründungsveranstaltung des Hannah-Arendt-Instituts für politische Gegenwartsfragen. Quelle: Klappentext.
