Among the first movies to deal with the subject of the Holocaust, this documentary about Jewish war orphans opened in New York in September 1948 and has rarely been seen since. According to film critic Jim Hoberman, the film was modeled on Children Must Laugh, a pre-war Yiddish-language picture about Jewish orphans. We Live Again incorporates newsreels, actual footage of children receiving aid from relief agencies, and a few staged sequences. An introductory credit reads: "This film is about the children in the Homes and Camps of France, operated under the auspices of the Jewish Union for Resistance and Mutual Aid. It was produced in the summer and fall of 1946, two years after the Liberation and is dedicated to the memory of those who died so that their children might live and laugh in Peace." The film is an important companion piece to both Our Children and Long Is the Road, two post-war films about displaced persons restored by NCJF with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. In MIR LEBN DO! / NOUS CONTINUONS!... and UNZERE ZUKUNFT / NOTRE AVENIR (1945 FR / Elie L. Davidson), the caring for orphans in France after the end of the war is shown. UNZERE ZUKUNFT / NOTRE AVENIR shows the efforts of the zionist "Union Populaire Juive du France", which sees ist work as being in the founding of a Jewish state in Palestine. MIR LEBN DO! / NOUS CONTINUONS!... reveals a somewhat more 'bundist" standpoint. Under the obligation of the Resistance, the "Union des Juifs pour la Resistance et l'entraide en France" takes interest in the French diaspora seriously. In UNZERE ZUKUNFT / NOTRE AVENIR the children learn Iwryth from an early age, but in MIR LEBN DO! / NOUS CONTINUONS!... they learn French and Yiddish. (Cineholocaust)
