Die supportiv-expressive Gruppentherapie (SEGT) ist ein spezifischer gruppentherapeutischer Ansatz für die Psychotherapie mit Krebspatienten, die auf den Arbeiten von Irvin Yalom zu existenzieller Psychotherapie und prozessorientierter Gruppentherapie basiert. In diesem Band wird die in den USA von David Spiegel und Kollegen entwickelte und für den deutschsprachigen Raum adaptierte Kurzzeitintervention der SEGT beschrieben. Nach einem einleitenden Überblick über das derzeitige psychoonkologische Behandlungsfeld werden die für die psychotherapeutische Arbeit mit Krebspatienten in Gruppen relevanten klinisch-philosophischen Konzepte Yaloms zusammengefasst. Anschließend wird die auf 12 Sitzungen angelegte Kurzzeittherapie ausführlich beschrieben. Die Grundpfeiler der SEGT bestehen in der Förderung von Unterstützung und Bindung innerhalb und außerhalb der Gruppe, der Stärkung des emotionalen Ausdrucks und der Bearbeitung von existenziellen Fragen und Anliegen. Dem therapeutischen Vorgehen liegen dabei unterstützende und emotionsfokussierende Prinzipien zugrunde. Anhand von Interventions- und Fallbeispielen wird die Durchführung praxisnah illustriert.
