Sailors have sailed the Mediterranean for over 10,000 years, but our history of shipbuilding starts around 3500 B.C.E., when the Egyptians began painting a peculiar type of boat on some of their pots. From then until the time of Jesus, shipbuilding became almost an art form, as vessels were made for shipping and fighting.
