Dissertation zu den Grundlagen des Feststofftransportes in Fließgewässern, der sich bisher einer physikalisch begründeten und damit einer allgemeingültigen Formulierung entzieht. Es werden die drei wesentlichen Fragestellungen behandelt: Bei welchen hydraulischen Bedingungen setzt sich das Sohlenmaterial in Bewegung? Welcher Transportkörper bildet sich? Wie lässt sich der Transport durch einen Querschnitt berechnen? Die Arbeit erläutert die Grundlagen des Feststofftransportes (Beginn, Körper, Bilanz), den Transportkörper (Entstehung, Existenzkriterien, zeitliche Entwicklung), stellt die Versuchsanlage mit ihrer Messtechnik und das Versuchsprogramm vor, stellt die Versuchsergebnisse zusammen und diskutiert die Ergebnisse. Außerdem wird das Problem der Sohlenrauheit (Kornrauheit, Formrauheit, Rauheit des Geschiebetransports sowie Anlandungen, Kolke und Bewuchs) behandelt. Da die Versuche bisher nur mit einkörnigem Material durchgeführt wurden, sind die Einflüsse des normalerweise gradierten Materials in weiteren Untersuchungen zu ermitteln.
