Die Analytische Chemie ist eine angewandte Wissenschaft, die weit über die Chemie, die Biochemie und Lebensmittelchemie hinaus für die Biologie, die klinische Medizin, die Geowissenschaften, die Umweltforschung und auch für die Physik grundlegende Bedeutung erlangt hat. Eine Fülle neuer analytischer Möglichkeiten erwuchs aus dieser Zusammenarbeit; insbesondere der Physik und der Physikalischen Chemie verdankt die Analytik manches neue Verfahren. Die Automatisierung der chemischen Analytik ist in rascher Entwicklung begriffen. Aus dieser Situation erstand die Forderung nach einem aktuellen, handlichen Taschenbuch, das am Arbeitsplatz präzise Informationen über Prinzip und Anwendbarkeit der analytischen Verfahren bietet. Das etwa alle zwei Jahre erscheinende Werk soll, der Entwicklung folgend, in einer Reihe von Einzelbeiträgen sowohl neue als auch bewährte klassische "Grundlagen", "Methoden" und "Anwendungen" beschreiben. Im Anschluß an diesen Beitragsteil erscheinen ab Band 2 einige für den Analytiker ständig nützliche Informationen als "Basisteil". Das Taschenbuch hat seine Aufgabe erfüllt, wenn es dem analytisch Arbeitenden ein Hilfsmittel am Arbeitsplatz ist, das ihm täglich auftretende Fragen beantwortet bzw. ihm Hinweise gibt, wo er eine Antwort finden kann. Ein Sachregister erschließt den Inhalt jedes erscheinenden Bandes. Das Autorenverzeichnis wird laufend ergänzt. Um eine optimale Inhaltsübersicht zu gewahren, werden ab Band 4 die Inhaltsverzeichnisse der vorangegangenen Bände abgedruckt
